About the position

The position is for a lead engineer within the New Shepard Avionics team at Blue Origin, focusing on the design, development, and verification of high-performance avionics hardware systems for reusable suborbital rocket systems. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the successful delivery of avionics components that support safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver avionics hardware systems.
  • Design, develop, and verify high-performance avionics hardware for various flight vehicles.
  • Drive requirements definition, modeling, analysis, design, test, and production release of on-vehicle launch, flight, and power management components.
  • Follow avionics designs through formal verification, environmental qualification, and release.
  • Participate in flight tests and ensure compliance with safety and performance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 8+ years of proven experience in the design of complex hardware.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Experience in circuit analysis and simulation, including worst-case circuit analysis and signal integrity analysis.
  • Familiarity with grounding and general board layout principles, including EMI/EMC tradeoffs.
  • Experience in computer command and I/O control for sophisticated industrial systems or vehicles.
  • Background in developing sophisticated circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Data Acquisition Systems and various sensor technologies.
  • Hands-on experience throughout the design, verification, qualification, and production phases.
