About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of electrical systems for medium to large building projects within a private consulting firm that specializes in Architectural, MEP, and Construction administration services across various sectors including commercial, educational, government, healthcare, and industrial. This position is based in Houston and requires a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with a strong background in project engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of electrical system design, from developing project concepts and budgets to conducting site assessments and writing comprehensive reports that provide solutions tailored to client needs. In this role, the Senior Electrical Engineer will oversee the preparation of technical drawings and assessment reports, ensuring that all documentation meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy. The engineer will also be tasked with developing typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including the establishment of Revit standards in collaboration with the engineering team. Staying current with industry trends and technological advancements is crucial, as the engineer will be expected to recommend changes in approach and services as necessary to enhance project outcomes. The position involves significant interaction with project sites, requiring the engineer to conduct site visit surveys to evaluate existing systems and determine effective engineering strategies. During the construction phase, the engineer will monitor project quality, progress, and compliance with specifications, providing input on Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals. Additionally, the Senior Electrical Engineer will mentor junior engineering staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment while ensuring effective communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors. The role also includes participation in Owner-Architect-Contractor meetings, contributing to business development efforts, and assisting in the preparation of marketing materials and project qualifications. Responsibilities

  • Performs and supervises preparation of technical drawings and assessment reports.
  • Development of typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including development of Revit standards in coordination with the team.
  • Keeps abreast of industry and technology changes and trends, and recommends changes in approach and services, as appropriate.
  • Provide design inputs and reviews of other engineer's projects to verify it conforms to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards.
  • Performs site visit surveys to determine engineering strategies, and to document and evaluate existing systems.
  • Visits project sites during construction for reviews of quality, progress, and compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Reviews and provides input on 'Request for Information' and 'submittals' during the construction administration phase.
  • Attend and participate in Owner-Architect-Contractor meetings as required.
  • Mentors engineering staff.
  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support, as necessary.
  • Works on developing a positive relationship of trust with the team.
  • Provides technical support and project communications to team, as required.
  • Participates in team meetings to help resolve project issues, coordination with other disciplines, schedule adherence, technical issues.
  • As needed, provides support to Business Development, including write-ups of key aspects of projects and presentation of work at industry events.
  • Works with Marketing in preparing submittals and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed PE
  • 10+ years' project engineering experience in all phases of project.
  • Experience working in integrated teams.
  • Leadership ability working in a consultancy environment.
  • Experience with healthcare, government, and education projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced technical knowledge in Engineering and a broad knowledge of engineering systems, calculations, and construction methods.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM.
  • ARCH FLASH experience a plus.
  • Experience with complex analysis tools for electrical design.
