About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Generation role at Black & Veatch involves providing technical expertise and leadership on conventional power generation projects. The position requires the development of electrical deliverables, engineering calculations, and specifications, while also overseeing project coordination and client interactions. This hybrid role allows for a balance between remote work and on-site responsibilities, focusing on innovative energy solutions and sustainable infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Technical Specialist providing knowledge and expertise, and/or function in a Supervisory role leading engineer staff on Conventional Power Generation Projects.
  • Develop electrical drawing deliverables including one line and three line diagrams, electrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Conduct complex engineering calculations such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, Arc flash analysis, protective relay settings, and battery and charger sizing.
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.
  • Create man hour budgets and schedules for projects and proposals.
  • Attend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients, and provide support during construction.
  • Provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and company policies.
  • Independently apply knowledge and ensure compliance with quality programs, promoting a culture conducive to quality.
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects and manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on complex projects and define project schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
  • Experience in utility scale conventional power generation project design and project leadership.
  • Familiarity with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Quality Assurance / Quality Check (QA/QC) and project lead experience.
  • Experience with electrical equipment including MV and LV switchgear, transformers, panel boards, breakers, protective relays, and cables.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict and build effective teams.
