About the position

As a Senior Electrical Engineer in Research and Development at Boston Scientific, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and testing of complex implantable medical devices. This position requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and the ability to apply them in a practical setting. You will be responsible for providing electrical engineering support and expertise throughout the entire product development lifecycle, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary regulatory and quality standards. Your work will directly impact patient safety and product quality, as you will be involved in creating innovative solutions that address significant health industry challenges. In this role, you will design, develop, debug, modify, and test electrical circuits and systems using current tools and analysis techniques. You will document your work meticulously, writing reports, memos, and change requests in accordance with approved processes and standards. Tracking the electrical development effort will be essential, and you will utilize various version control, defect tracking, and peer review tools such as Accurev, JIRA, and Windchill to maintain accurate records. You will also be tasked with solving engineering problems by analyzing situations and recommending corrective or alternative actions. This includes evaluating and verifying requirements, circuits, and systems through established engineering practices. Your ability to perform design analysis and exploratory testing will be critical, as will your capacity to work with both electrical and mechanical hardware. Collaboration with regulatory groups will be necessary to ensure compliance with external regulatory agencies, and you will be expected to establish a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System. Your commitment to patient safety and product quality will be paramount, as you will be solving a range of problems of varying scope and complexity, often proposing innovative solutions based on your experience and understanding of the business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, debugs, modifies, and tests electrical circuits and systems using current tools and analysis techniques.
  • Documents electrical development by writing documents, reports, memos, and change requests according to approved processes and standards.
  • Tracks electrical development efforts by creating and maintaining records in approved tracking management tools, utilizing version control, defect tracking, and peer review tools including Accurev, JIRA, and Windchill.
  • Solves engineering problems by analyzing situations and recommending corrective or alternative actions.
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and verifies requirements, circuits, and systems using engineering practices.
  • Investigates, researches, selects electronic circuits, components, tools, equipment, and practices.
  • Performs design analysis and exploratory testing.
  • Works with electrical and mechanical hardware and associated tools and infrastructure.
  • Writes final evaluation reports and collaborates with regulatory groups to satisfy requirements for external regulatory agencies.
  • Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System, demonstrating a commitment to patient safety and product quality.
  • Solves a range of problems of varying scope and complexity, generally using existing solutions while exercising autonomy to propose alternatives.
  • Works independently, guided by company policies, guidelines, and procedures, receiving guidance on complex and unprecedented problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience or a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; and develop conclusions and recommendations from all stakeholders using various data sources.
  • Ability to analyze test results and perform risk analysis.
  • Ability to interpret and research requirements, specifications, and input/output processes.
  • Experience with change management and issue tracking tools such as JIRA, AccuRev, and Windchill.
  • Requires in-depth conceptual, practical, and technical knowledge of principles and theories of board-level electrical engineering and a general understanding of related job functions.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of experience in hardware engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in automated and manual testing in a regulated industry, preferably in the active implantable medical device domain.
  • 2+ years of experience in the system development lifecycle process, including formalized processes and procedures.
  • Experience creating test protocols and automating tests using Python and other relevant tools.
  • General experience in Perl, Python, HTML, scripting, or equivalent.
