About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Substation is responsible for overseeing substation engineering and consulting services for clients both domestically and internationally. This role involves leading the design and execution of electrical protection and control systems, as well as physical layout designs for substations. The position plays a crucial role in enhancing the resiliency and reliability of the electric grid, with opportunities for advancement into leadership and management roles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in preparation of proposals and scope development, including conceptual designs and execution plans.
  • Create engineering/project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Execute engineering activities related to physical substation design, including yard layouts, plans, sections, grounding, and lightning protection.
  • Design protection and control systems, including panel arrangements and equipment wiring.
  • Perform calculations for studies and reports such as grounding and AC/DC load studies.
  • Specify equipment for procurement and factory acceptance testing.
  • Coordinate design activities with other departments such as Civil/Structural and Transmission Line.
  • Develop and improve engineering processes, tools, and technology implementations.
  • Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to junior engineers and team members.
  • Engage with clients and outside personnel regularly to discuss project progress.
  • Conduct quality reviews for engineering documents and specifications.
  • Provide short-term field support during construction phases.
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program and 7 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in EPC projects.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering Technology with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 7 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in EPC projects.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 6 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in EPC projects.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures, with strong knowledge of ANSI and IEEE Standards.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
