About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Wireless will play a crucial role in the Digital Health team at Globus Medical, focusing on the design, development, and testing of wireless power and communication systems for medical devices. This position requires a blend of creative and analytical skills to innovate and commercialize solutions that enhance patient care for musculoskeletal disorders. The engineer will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that products meet industry standards and performance metrics, while also mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, build, and test of wireless power and communication systems from concept to production.
  • Translate product requirements into design specifications and verification tests.
  • Develop accurate models to simulate system performance and safety in the context of use.
  • Prototype and test designs by integrating antennas/coils with development kits or custom-designed PCBAs.
  • Characterize electromagnetic parameters with various analyzers and probes.
  • Evaluate real-world performance with test phantoms and cadaveric specimens.
  • Collaborate with a team to integrate wireless systems into market-ready medical devices.
  • Consider manufacturing methods, cost, and design for manufacturability to optimize system designs.
  • Adhere to project timelines to deliver on-time designs, prototypes, test results, and documentation.
  • Contribute to the growth of the intellectual property portfolio.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members.

Requirements

  • BS in electrical engineering with 5+ years of experience, MS EE with 3+ years of experience, or PhD EE with 0-3 years of experience.
  • Experience in wireless power applications (e.g. inductive coupling, RF energy harvesting).
  • Experience with wireless communication and RF antenna design (e.g. RFID, MedRadio, BLE, LoRa).
  • Experience with EM simulation tools such as ANSYS (HFSS and Maxwell), CST, COMSOL, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematics and PCB layout.
  • Experience with hands-on prototyping and testing.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetics (100kHz-5GHz).
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic safety requirements (e.g. FCC 47 CFR, SAR).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to use Altium or equivalent PCBA design tool.
  • Experience designing for medical device or wearable applications.
  • Experience designing and testing according to electrical safety standards (e.g. IEC 60601-1, IEC 60950-1, IEC 62368-1, or equivalent).
