Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction

About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading the internal electrical engineering processes for photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects at a prominent Engineer, Procure, and Construct (EPC) firm. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including overseeing electrical design and studies, ensuring that field construction and installation methods are considered in design decisions, and optimizing design development and costs. The engineer will be responsible for designing DC, MVAC, and LVAC auxiliary collection systems while also mentoring junior team members to foster their professional growth. In this role, the Senior Electrical Engineer will develop both preliminary and detailed designs based on sound engineering principles tailored for PV and BESS projects. They will enhance electrical engineering calculation tools to determine cable, conduit, overcurrent protective device (OCPD), and electrical equipment ratings according to project specifications. Collaboration with the Estimating team will be essential to support design concepts and optimize the Bill of Materials (BOM) and Schedule of Values (SOV). The engineer will also guide CAD designers in creating effective site layouts and single line diagrams, ensuring that all designs are practical and efficient. Additionally, the Senior Electrical Engineer will maintain a comprehensive database of equipment used in PV and BESS designs, updating it as new versions become available. They will develop construction details and BOMs for various work packages, review utility interconnection documents to ensure compliance with project design requirements, and provide design inputs to the PV Performance group for accurate production modeling. The engineer will apply innovative engineering principles to optimize costs for utility-scale projects and maintain design matrices for future reference. Furthermore, they will support the Procurement team and Project Engineers with inquiries regarding product compatibility and design assumptions, attend mandatory training sessions, and develop expertise in various technologies related to utility-scale PV and BESS projects. Mentorship of other engineers and designers will also be a key aspect of this role, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development within the team.
