About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer at Valdes Engineering Company is a seasoned professional responsible for medium and high voltage design and application of switch gear and motor controls within a power distribution or engineering consulting environment. This role involves interfacing with client engineering representatives and mentoring junior staff, ensuring engineering packages are completed on time and within budget, and performing various electrical design tasks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor junior staff members in electrical design tasks.
• Analyze, design, and produce engineering packages for clients.
• Prepare instrumentation specifications for purchase.
• Interface with client engineering representatives and other discipline engineers on-site.
• Design and layout medium and high power distribution systems.
• Conduct substation design, short circuit analysis, and ARC flash studies.
• Perform lighting design and grounding and lightning protection tasks.
• Develop wiring diagrams and schematics.
• Apply medium to high voltage transformers and uninterruptible power systems.
• Design conduit, cable tray, and underground duct banks.
• Conduct electrical calculations including short circuit, load flow, and voltage drop.

Requirements

• 10-15 years of experience in electrical engineering, specifically in medium/high voltage design.
• Strong technical skills in electrical design and instrumentation specifications.
• Proficiency in SKM electrical modeling software and Smart Plant Instrumentation (inTools).
• Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in project management and leadership roles.
• Familiarity with P&ID development and control system hardware specifications.
