About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer, Medical & Clean Manufacturing (MCM) at KFI Engineers plays a pivotal role in the successful execution of various projects. This position reports directly to the MCM Electrical Department Leader and is integral to ensuring technical and engineering excellence in all deliverables. The Senior Electrical Engineer is tasked with maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring that client expectations are clearly understood and met. This role requires a proactive approach, clear communication with all stakeholders, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative working environment. In this position, the Senior Electrical Engineer will assist in the design of power distribution systems, which is a primary requirement, and will also be involved in sizing motor feeders and starters. The role includes supporting the design of building power and lighting systems, which encompasses special systems such as ground fault protection, lightning protection, emergency generators, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). The engineer will prepare engineering documents and equipment specifications to align with the contracted scope of work while ensuring the application of Electrical Engineering Principles. A fundamental understanding of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices is essential. The engineer will build knowledge of relevant codes, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, International Building Code (IBC), and Life Safety Code. Responsibilities also include performing voltage drop and short-circuit calculations, as well as conducting arc fault analysis. Coordination with other departments, project team members, and contractors is a critical aspect of this role, ensuring that all work is aligned and executed efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the design of power distribution systems, including sizing motor feeders and starters.
  • Supports the design of building power and lighting systems, including special systems such as ground fault, lightning protection, emergency generator, and UPS.
  • Prepares engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and ensure application of Electrical Engineering Principles.
  • Possesses a basic understanding of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices.
  • Builds knowledge of relevant codes such as NEC, NFPA, IBC, and Life Safety Code.
  • Assists with performing voltage drop and short-circuit calculations and conducts arc fault analysis.
  • Coordinates work with other departments, project team members, and contractors.

Requirements

  • Ten plus years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in Ohio, or ability to obtain.
  • Project experience and/or working knowledge of electrical design for building projects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar drawing software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish rapport and credibility with customers and other stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Healthcare design experience.
  • Familiarity with FGI guidelines and NFPA 99.
