About the position

H2M Architects + Engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firm located in the NY Metropolitan Area, is seeking a licensed Senior Project Electrical Engineer to join our Melville, NY team. This position is crucial as our electrical engineers play a vital role in ensuring the functionality and efficiency of building systems, even if their work is often hidden from view. Our engineers are dedicated to developing detailed, high-quality drawings and engage with clients to fully understand the scope of work before commencing design. By spending time in the field, taking precise measurements, and asking the right questions, they ensure that the designs simplify the bidding and construction processes, ultimately leading to fewer change orders. Our MEP solutions prioritize building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort, ensuring that our clients' buildings operate seamlessly. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team, including architects, civil engineers, and environmental scientists, to execute electrical engineering design work for both public and private clients. You will coordinate the efforts of both in-house and external teams responsible for power generation, distribution, low voltage, lighting, communication, fire alarm, and security system design. We are looking for an enthusiastic go-getter who is comfortable managing projects while also interfacing with clients to help grow our business. Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems such as power distribution, stand-by power generation, lighting, communication, fire alarm, and security systems.
  • Supervise a group of Electrical Engineers in project design and development tasks, including drawings, calculations, cost estimates, and specifications.
  • Respond to client questions and comments, review contractor submittals, and provide clarifications during construction.
  • Review electrical department design documents for completion and ensure adherence to accepted industry and company standards.
  • Assist in the development of company quality standards and procedures.
  • Work closely with management and electrical department leadership to develop and implement electrical short- and long-range manpower and production plans to meet project objectives.
  • Assist in business development initiatives to pursue new projects, including participation in client presentations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 7 years of experience with a consulting engineering firm designing building power, lighting, communication, and security systems.
  • Thorough understanding of the architectural and engineering industry, including relevant Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using Outlook and Microsoft Office (or similar software).
  • LEED Accreditation and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and Easy Power desired.
  • Ability to mentor junior level staff.
  • Experience with HVAC and plumbing systems is a plus.
