About the position

The Electrical Engineer at Intertape Polymer Group (IPG) plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and safety of our manufacturing operations. This position is designed for a professional who is committed to continuous improvement of processes, facilities, and human assets within a dynamic manufacturing environment. The Electrical Engineer will be involved in various project assignments and will also participate in an on-call rotation to provide troubleshooting support and knowledge transfer to the Maintenance and Operations departments. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a dedication to fostering a safe working environment. In this position, the Electrical Engineer will support and promote safe working practices throughout the facility, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include overseeing the safety of new equipment, modernizing older and imported equipment to meet current safety standards, and enhancing electrical safety programs. The engineer will also participate in training initiatives to maintain and develop skills related to multiple brands of PLC Logic, HMI programs, SCADA systems, and robotics, ensuring that maintenance personnel are well-educated on electrical systems. The role involves providing Electrical Engineering support for equipment installations, writing specifications, comparing bids, and negotiating contracts. The engineer will develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules, oversee equipment removals, relocations, and installations, and create electrical design drawings as needed. Additionally, the Electrical Engineer will provide start-up assistance and training, lead contract engineering and maintenance personnel, and support continuous improvement activities within the organization. Participation in plant-wide and departmental improvement initiatives, as well as recognition activities, is also expected. The engineer will contribute to facility vision advancement and investment planning, providing input for project justification efforts and other tasks as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Support and promote safe working practices within the facility.
  • Assure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for new equipment safety.
  • Responsible for bringing older and imported equipment up to modern safety standards.
  • Responsible for enhancing electrical safety programs and leading by example.
  • Participate in training as needed to maintain, develop, optimize, and troubleshoot multiple brands of PLC Logic, HMI programs, SCADA systems, multiple brands of Robotics, and all associated technical documentation.
  • Continuously educate and train maintenance personnel on electrical systems.
  • Provide Electrical Engineering support on equipment installations.
  • Write specifications, compare bids, and negotiate contracts.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
  • Oversee equipment removals, relocations, and installations.
  • Develop and organize electrical design drawings when needed.
  • Provide start-up assistance and training.
  • Lead contract engineering, maintenance personnel, and other contractor resources when needed.
  • Support the continuous improvement activities of the organization.
  • Participate in plant-wide and departmental improvement and team building activities as well as recognition activities.
  • Lead teams in area of expertise.
  • Provide input to facility vision advancement and investment planning.
  • Contribute to project justification efforts.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading electrical projects and electrical portion of multi-discipline projects.
  • Electrical safety and functional design expertise.
  • Proficiency in ladder logic, coordinated drive systems, and loop tuning.
  • National Electric Code (NEC) training and working knowledge.
  • Ability to develop people through training, coaching, mentoring, conflict resolution, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • Strong electrical aptitude with the ability to grasp complex systems.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Formal electrical safety training.
  • High familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC programming (SLC, PLC-5, Logix 5000, MicroLogix, Panel View) and exposure to others - Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, B&R.
  • Robot programming experience, especially with Fanuc, but also others including Hyundai.
  • HMI programming experience, including Panel View, RS View, Intellution (iFIX) Enterprise level SCADA distributed control and data collection systems.
  • Experience with GE Proficy Suite - Historian, iFix, Cimplicity.
  • AC/DC, stepper, and servo drive experience.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFD) and proportional integral derivative (PID) controllers, control loops, and tuning.
  • Experience setting up industrial communication networks (Ethernet IP, DH+, DeviceNet).
  • Experience in paper mill, pulp & paper, film, tape or any type of rubber/plastics web-fed manufacturing.
  • AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.

  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma training.
  • Experience supervising employees and resources for projects.
  • Energy management experience.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting medium voltage power distribution and switchgear.
  • Tooling and automation design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Statistical Process Control.
  • Exposure to Sight Machine or other AI simulated production correlation suites.
  • HVAC and industrial combustion controls experience.
  • High mechanical aptitude or design experience.
  • Plant and/or production/converting commissioning experience.
  • Understanding of financial and other business measures; perform cost/benefit analysis.
  • Working knowledge of electrical requirements Class I Division 1 & Class II Division 2 environments.
  • Exposure/expertise as Certified Functional Safety Expert, SIL rated circuit design, & hazard analysis.
  • Familiarity with MS Project, MS Visio, VBA, XML and MS .net.
  • Experience with AutoDesk or other PDM and drawing/document management systems and processes.
  • Exposure to converting, packaging, palletizing, winding, cobotics, and/or automatic guided vehicles.
