About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer at McKinstry will manage the building systems engineering design process from project pursuits through construction administration and turnover. This role involves team management, design management, and customer relations, focusing on innovative solutions to address climate and energy challenges in the built environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the building systems engineering design process from project pursuits through construction administration and turnover.
  • Identify resource needs to meet project deadlines.
  • Train and mentor project and lead engineers on design and technical topics.
  • Conduct quarterly goal plan reviews with direct reports.
  • Provide clear direction on design tasks and deadlines.
  • Keep the design team updated with necessary technical information.
  • Delegate tasks to maximize technical development opportunities for junior staff.
  • Document project correspondence, issues, decisions, and directions.
  • Apply and coach McKinstry Design standards and procedures.
  • Provide engineering analysis to support sales and early design efforts.
  • Identify and respond to changes in scope, schedule, budget, or expectations.
  • Coordinate with construction and estimating teams to reduce project costs.
  • Maintain a professional qualification or certification in their discipline or demonstrate equivalent technical knowledge.
  • Deliver designs to customers by reviewing engineering calculations and design drawings for quality and constructability.
  • Attend design meetings with external customers and stakeholders as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience required.
  • Engineering license and ability to obtain licensure in additional states required.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of experience in electrical engineering or related field required.
  • Extensive experience in building electrical system designs, including electrical distribution, emergency power systems, and low voltage systems.
  • Experience with development and production of Division 26, 27, and 28 specifications.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Procore, AutoCAD, and Revit required.
  • Skilled in electrical analysis software (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Total Cost of Ownership and/or Life Cycle Cost Analysis required.

Nice-to-haves

  • LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Experience with PV + BESS & Microgrids preferred.
