About the position

This position as a Senior Electrical Engineer at Sargent & Lundy offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing you to work three days a week in the office and two days remotely. You will be part of a project team that focuses on the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems for new and existing nuclear power plants. This role is critical in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of electrical systems within the nuclear power sector. Your responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing engineering design change packages aimed at installing, replacing, or upgrading existing plant equipment. This is essential for maintaining long-term equipment reliability. You will also be tasked with preparing and reviewing detailed engineering calculations that support these design change packages, which encompass AC and DC power studies, short circuit analysis, cable ampacity, voltage drop assessments, breaker coordination, motor starting, and protective relay settings. In addition, you will prepare and review equipment procurement specifications and participate in the bid review evaluation process for potential equipment vendors. This includes responding to vendor inquiries and maintaining a tracking mechanism for questions and responses. You will also prepare scoping documents for conceptual designs, ensuring constructability reviews are conducted. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will interface with project team members from various engineering and design disciplines, including Mechanical, Structural, Civil, and Instrumentation & Control (I&C). You will also engage with clients and vendors, performing document reviews and providing written comments. Attending client meetings and conducting site field walkdowns will be part of your responsibilities to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction. Travel is a component of this position, as you will need to visit client and vendor offices for design reviews and plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs. Supporting site installation activities during project implementation is also expected. You will assist the project manager in ensuring that projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget. This includes defining deliverables, reviewing status, tracking progress, and maintaining communication with clients through routine status meetings and progress reports.
