About the position

The Senior Data Center Electrical Engineer at HDR, Inc. is responsible for leading teams and designing electrical projects from inception to completion, particularly in the mission critical environment. This role involves close collaboration with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality construction documents and ensure client satisfaction. The position also emphasizes mentoring junior engineers and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams in designing electrical projects from start to finish.
  • Coordinate and work closely with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Develop feasibility reports, construction documents, specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Perform RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, site investigations, and overall construction administration.
  • Mentor and train junior electrical engineers and facilitate their growth.
  • Assist marketing and business development in developing fee proposals and scope of work documents.
  • Understand project-specific requirements around reliability, sustainability, and construction schedules.
  • Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions with project teams.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of construction documents and specifications.
  • Provide design support during construction, including field observations and submittal reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting, and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems.
  • Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and electrical design software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
