About the position

The Senior I&C/Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, development, procurement, construction, installation, and testing of systems that are essential for controlling and monitoring processes at our new medical isotope production facility. This position requires a collaborative approach, as the engineer will work closely with a team responsible for overseeing the design of control systems and selecting the appropriate instruments and equipment for the SHINE facility. The role is pivotal in ensuring that the systems meet the necessary design requirements and function effectively within the operational framework of the facility. In this position, the Senior I&C/Electrical Engineer will mentor junior engineers, guiding them in technology, decision-making, and ownership of the I&C equipment they are responsible for. The engineer will lead the interfaces between various stakeholders and the I&C team, providing critical input on scheduling tasks, estimating the length and effort required to create design products, and driving decisions regarding vendor requests, changes, and updates to equipment and programming. The engineer will also take on the responsibility of overseeing a subset of I&C equipment, guiding it through the design, procurement, and construction processes while ensuring compliance with design specifications. The role involves overseeing the development of both digital and analog control systems, including distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and data acquisition systems (DAQ). The engineer will perform reviews of vendor deliverables and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to select instruments for measuring process variables within the SHINE facility. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate with the Auxiliary Systems Group to manage power distribution to I&C equipment and prepare instrument specifications, calculations, and test plans to support the design, construction, testing, commissioning, and operation of the facility. This includes designing and implementing instrument cable routing, conduit and raceway design, installation drawings, and loop diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor engineers in technology, decision making, and ownership of I&C equipment.
  • Lead the interfaces between stakeholders and the I&C team.
  • Provide input on schedule tasks for length and effort required to create design products.
  • Drive decisions on vendor requests, changes, and updates to equipment and programming.
  • Become the responsible engineer for a subset of I&C equipment, guiding it through design, procurement, and construction processes.
  • Oversee the development of digital and analog control systems, including DCS, PLC, and DAQ, by reviewing vendor deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to select instruments for measuring process variables.
  • Coordinate with the Auxiliary Systems Group for power distribution to I&C equipment.
  • Prepare instrument specifications, calculations, and test plans to support design and operation of the facility.
  • Design and implement instrument cable routing, conduit and raceway design, installation drawings, and loop diagrams.

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 5-20+ years of experience in relevant I&C engineering roles.
  • Knowledge in I&C systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, equipment environmental, seismic qualification (EQ) testing, and plant start-ups.
  • Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control, and monitoring.
  • Understanding of appropriate cable shielding, type, radiation tolerance, and separation by safety train.
  • Ability to think strategically and take decisive action based on gathered information.
  • Ability to critically evaluate information and ask questions when things don't make sense.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of nuclear safety related systems (NQA-1).
  • Experience in development of requirements for plant control system programming using Allen Bradley hardware PLC and SCADA HMI development.
  • Experience in cable routing and management.
