About the position

Vanderweil Engineers is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Boston office. As a leader in MEP/FP and technology services engineering, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality engineering solutions for a variety of projects, including commercial, healthcare, and government sectors. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for executing electrical designs in accordance with the Electrical Department's Procedures and Standards, as well as specific client standards where applicable. This role requires a strong understanding of project schedules, technical issues, and the ability to lead a technical team to deliver designs that meet client expectations. In this position, the Senior Electrical Engineer will collaborate closely with the Managing Principal, Project Managers, and the Electrical Team Leader to plan work and balance deliverables with budgets. The engineer will maintain a comprehensive understanding of all associated codes and standards, ensuring compliance in all team activities. Continuous improvement of the team's deliverable quality, communication, and efficiency is essential. The engineer will also be responsible for the design of power distribution, lighting, and emergency power supply systems, ensuring adherence to applicable NEC codes and standards. The role involves working as part of a project team to produce engineering solutions for large-scale and complex building projects, coordinating with other design team members, including architects and mechanical or structural engineers. The Senior Electrical Engineer will manage project budgets and scope of work, perform construction administration tasks, and conduct field visits to issue reports and respond to RFIs. Additionally, the engineer will perform studies associated with conceptual designs, which may include site surveys and system sizing.

Responsibilities

  • Execute electrical designs in accordance with the Electrical Department's Procedures and Standards and specific client standards where applicable.
  • Work in conjunction with Managing Principal, Project Managers, and Electrical Team Leader to plan the work and balance deliverables with budgets.
  • Maintain understanding of project schedule, status, and technical issues.
  • Review all designs issued prior to client submission with supervisor and Department Head.
  • Lead technical team and deliver design for various clients, providing support to assigned staff on technical and administrative issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all associated Codes and Standards in all Team activities.
  • Continuously improve the Team's deliverable quality, communications, attitude, and efficiency.
  • Design power distribution, lighting, emergency, and standby power supply in accordance with all applicable NEC codes and standards.
  • Develop and evaluate best engineering solutions for projects, including commercial, mission critical, healthcare, science, technology, government, and specialty markets.
  • Collaborate with other design team members to ensure electrical systems are integrated with the project's goals.
  • Manage budgets and scope of work.
  • Perform Construction Administration tasks such as field visits, issuance of field reports, responding to RFIs, and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Conduct studies associated with conceptual designs, including site surveys and system sizing.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge of Excel, Revit, SKM, AGI 32, and AMPCALC 4.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Degreed (BSEE preferred) and licensed or ability to attain licensure in MA within one year.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in MEP consulting, design-build, architectural, or construction companies.
  • EIT required, PE preferred, LEED preferred.
