About the position

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Government Services Division, which provides cutting-edge engineering and consulting services to the management and operating contractors for the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). This position allows for a hybrid/flexible work schedule, combining on-site work at our Los Alamos office with remote work from home. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be part of multi-discipline teams that develop and design facilities, systems, and equipment for the nation's major research laboratories and the legacy nuclear weapons production complex. This role is critical and offers meaningful and challenging engineering work that you can be proud to contribute to. In this mid-level design engineering position, you will lead electrical design engineering efforts on multi-disciplined project design teams. Your responsibilities will include the production of engineering calculations and analyses, design drawings, and engineering reports. You will apply your electrical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components, and produce procurement and construction specifications for electrical sections. Additionally, you will attend project meetings, perform field walkdowns, and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their careers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design engineering efforts on multi-disciplined project design teams.
  • Produce engineering calculations/analyses, design drawings, and engineering reports.
  • Apply electrical engineering expertise to the design and qualification of structures, systems, and components.
  • Produce procurement specifications and construction specifications (Electrical sections).
  • Attend project meetings and perform field walkdowns.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.
  • BSEE or MSEE degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (PE strongly desired).
  • 5 or more years of progressive responsible experience in electrical engineering in a nuclear environment (DOE preferred, commercial, or Navy).
  • Experience with producing engineering designs for low to medium voltage electrical distribution systems and instrumentation wiring; experience with more than one type of system is a plus.
  • Field engineering and construction experience is a plus.
  • Experience with NEC, UL508, codes, and IES Lighting Handbook.
  • Proficiency in load flow and/or arc flash analysis software such as ETAP and/or SKM Power Tools.
  • Proficiency in lighting analysis software such as Virtual and AGI32.
  • Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with field engineering and construction.
  • Familiarity with various electrical systems beyond low to medium voltage.
