About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer at ExxonMobil is responsible for optimizing, troubleshooting, and designing a variety of electrical equipment within a major integrated petrochemical manufacturing facility. This role involves close collaboration with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project development teams to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical systems, contributing to environmentally sound and profitable operations. The position is based in Beaumont, TX, Baytown, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, Baton Rouge, LA, or Joliet, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain close contact with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project development to identify and implement electrical equipment repairs and reliability improvements.
  • Design and specify electrical equipment such as motors, breakers, relays, generators, substations, buses, starters, transformers, and other industrial electrical equipment (480V to 230kV).
  • Coordinate projects for new or replacement equipment among engineering, maintenance, and operations.
  • Provide commissioning, startup assistance, and support of electrical systems with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as an electrical technology expert liaison between project engineers, plant maintenance, and operations personnel.
  • Support and interface with business teams to maintain and improve electrical reliability while reducing maintenance costs.
  • Participate in screening, optimization, and basic design preparation for electric power systems.
  • Develop project scoping, design, and detail specifications for electric power systems.
  • Monitor Engineering Quality Control and lead contractor's electrical work to ensure consistency with project specifications and guidelines.
  • Support preparation of Design Basis Memorandums and develop Specifications.
  • Provide technical support and services to operating facilities.
  • Perform power systems simulations and analyses, including load flow, short circuit, motor starting and reacceleration, arc flash, transient stability, and relay coordination.
  • Update Company practices and specifications.
  • Apply ExxonMobil Global Practices, Design Practices, General Information and Instructions, codes and standards in support of projects during the detailed design phase.
  • Participate actively in the Electrical Community of Practice.
  • Participate in incident investigations in support of assets.
  • Perform Risk Assessments and develop Equipment Strategies in support of assets.
  • Manage electrical area classification for assets within the facility supported.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in the petrochemical industry with power systems as an Electrical Engineer.
  • 10+ years of experience preferred.

  • Ability to work with internal customers as well as suppliers and repair facilities of electrical equipment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal form for the purpose of instructing others in technical matters and obtaining cooperation from various personnel.
  • Problem solving / troubleshooting of electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Safety standards and Area Electrical Classification standards (API, NFPA, NEC, and NETA).
  • Knowledge of SKM Modeling, System Studies, and Coordination.
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally in support of electrical equipment construction or repairs.
  • Work experience in petrochemical production units and awareness of surroundings from a safety and environmental point of view.
