About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer at Metro-North Railroad is responsible for providing electrical engineering services to enhance the reliability and safety of electrical and mechanical systems across the railroad's rolling stock and facilities. This role involves supervising and mentoring engineering staff, overseeing technical direction for maintenance and modifications, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering management and direction to the Equipment Engineering group.
  • Supervise, direct, and mentor assigned staff engineers and personnel.
  • Oversee and provide technical direction on Electrical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering for maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification of systems in Electric Multiple Unit (EMU), Coach, and Locomotive fleets.
  • Develop and establish maintenance instructions, standards, and regulations for repair and modification, maintenance alerts, and bulletins.
  • Oversee new vendor product evaluations and perform component failure analysis.
  • Provide Electrical Engineering expertise to MNR Capital Programs Department for fleet overhaul and new car design.
  • Support facilities maintenance and mechanical systems in MofE facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience managing technical professionals and/or a diverse unionized workforce.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in an engineering environment or equipment manufacturer working on passenger railcars or locomotives.
  • Strong knowledge of EMU, Coach, and Locomotive mechanical and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of Cab Signal/ATC and ACSES system operation.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of standard safety practices in a railroad environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree preferred.
