About the position

The position involves designing, developing, modifying, and evaluating instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems for various industrial applications, particularly in nuclear power plants and chemical processing facilities. The role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, technical writing, and the ability to work within stringent quality assurance standards. The engineer will be responsible for creating design specifications, conducting analyses, and developing control systems, while also providing technical leadership and support to junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems for industrial applications.
  • Prepare design and procurement specifications, design basis documents, and system description documents.
  • Engineer and design Plant Computer Systems and perform PLC Programming using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000.
  • Develop HMI systems and prepare proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct engineering analysis related to control logic diagrams, block diagrams, and schematics.
  • Develop test strategies and prepare test plans and procedures.
  • Analyze equipment to establish operating data and conduct experimental tests.
  • Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software, including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and MATLAB.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and compile data for engineering studies and projects.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as an instrumentation and controls engineer.
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to prepare various engineering documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office Programs (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience in PLC Programming and HMI design using Rockwell Automation RSLOGIX/Studio 5000.
  • Ability to design and engineer instrumentation and control (I&C) and electrical systems.
  • Previous commercial or DOE nuclear experience is a strong plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Siemens SIMATIC Step 7.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Analysis packages such as ETAP or SKM.
  • Expert level knowledge of industry standards NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, and UL 508A.
  • Certified UL-508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of EMI MIL standards and IEEE grounding standards.
