About the position

The Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer will join the Controls Engineering Team at Sundyne, a global manufacturer headquartered in Arvada, Colorado. This role is pivotal in ensuring the electrical and instrumentation aspects of our pump and compressor production orders are executed to the highest standards. The engineered-to-order systems developed by the team are installed in critical facilities such as refineries, petrochemical plants, and power stations worldwide. The position requires a deep understanding of control systems, particularly those based on Siemens and Rockwell PLCs, as well as machinery monitoring systems like Bently Nevada. The engineer will be responsible for studying project specifications, maintaining product safety, and developing comprehensive control packages that meet customer requirements. In this role, the engineer will also be tasked with generating essential documentation, including PLC code, Bill of Materials, and control narratives. They will prepare Factory Acceptance Test procedures and conduct tests at our facility, ensuring compliance with local and international regulatory codes. The position demands effective planning and management of multiple projects, often requiring travel for field support and customer meetings. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in automation, electrical design, and instrumentation design, with a proven ability to troubleshoot and develop solutions in complex environments.

Responsibilities

  • Study project and customer specification documents and develop control package accordingly
  • Maintain product safety in all designs
  • Perform system specification, design, architecture, and development for Control Systems (Siemens and Rockwell PLC based) and machinery monitoring systems such as Bently Nevada
  • Develop procedures, manuals, and other documentation for projects and internal use
  • Able to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams, flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID's)
  • Generation of PLC Code, Bill of Materials, One-Line Drawings, Wire Lists, Schematics, Control Narrative, Cause and Effect Matrix and all associated controls documentation
  • Prepare Factory Acceptance Test procedure and completing the test at our facility
  • Perform basic design and troubleshooting of communications networks and wiring for Ethernet, Modbus and Fieldbus
  • Specification of process valves and instrumentation associated with performance and anti-surge controllers
  • Follow local and international regulatory codes
  • Prepares and reviews skid electrical installation and needed BOM
  • Effectively plan, schedule, manage and report on multiple projects with various deadlines and responsibility levels
  • Some travel, including international, required for field support and customer meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 5-8 years or more of related work experience
  • Understand all aspects of automation including: PLC, DCS, SCADA/HMI, SIS, Electrical Design, Instrumentation Design and Industrial IT
  • Familiar with configuration of various automation systems
  • Ability to develop code, specify hardware and develop/modify HMI graphics
  • Basic understanding of hazardous area electrical classification and knowledge of NEC, IEC and other international requirements
  • Familiar with AutoCAD and drafting software
  • Familiar with MCC circuitry, VFDs and soft starters
  • Working knowledge of MS office products
  • Familiarity with rotating machinery such as pumps and compressors
  • Familiar with cable and conduit interconnection for instruments and motors
  • Proven programming skills for Rockwell / Siemens PLC and HMI platform
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols

Benefits

  • Annual salary range of $100,000.00 - $120,000.00
  • Eligibility for an annual bonus through the company bonus program
