About the position

The Senior Electrical Project Engineer in the XP HVHP (High Voltage, High Power) division is a pivotal role responsible for the design, development, and support of high voltage DC power supplies. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and project management skills, as the engineer will oversee project deliverables, manage resource allocation, and ensure timelines are met. The role involves leading design projects for new DC power supplies that can operate at voltages up to 500kV, while strictly adhering to established design and development guidelines. The engineer will also be tasked with modifying existing designs to better meet customer specifications and needs. In addition to design responsibilities, the Senior Electrical Project Engineer will engage in research and evaluation of new technologies and components, ensuring that the selection of raw materials and suppliers aligns with product performance specifications, reliability, and regulatory requirements. The role includes conducting parts derating analysis, performing failure analysis, and writing technical reports. The engineer will also oversee compliance and reliability testing of power supplies, providing sustaining support for existing designs through evaluation of components and processes. This position is integral to the success of the XP Power team, as it requires excellent communication skills to liaise with stakeholders regarding project timelines and deliverables. The engineer will work closely with a global team of engineers, fostering collaboration and innovation in a fast-paced environment. A willingness to work flexible hours and limited travel may be required, making adaptability a key trait for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design projects of new DC power supplies up to 500kV while adhering to published design and development guidelines.
  • Modify existing designs to meet customer needs.
  • Research and evaluation of new technologies and components.
  • Selection of raw materials, components, and suppliers based on product performance specifications, reliability, regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for completing project deliverables and communicating with stakeholders on timeline.
  • Conduct parts derating analysis.
  • Perform failure analysis.
  • Write technical reports.
  • Oversee compliance and reliability testing of power supplies.
  • Provide sustaining support of existing designs including evaluation of components and processes.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of power supply design and development experience.
  • DC High Voltage experience is desirable.
  • Strong analog and digital circuit analysis skills.
  • Ability to work hands-on with a variety of lab equipment and tools.
  • Programming experience (C, LabView, Matlab) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (RS232, USB, Ethernet) is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and shift priorities as needed.
  • Able to work closely with a global team of engineers.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours on occasion.

Nice-to-haves

  • DC High Voltage experience is desirable.
  • Programming experience (C, LabView, Matlab) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (RS232, USB, Ethernet) is desirable.
