About the position

Dexcom Corporation is seeking a cross-functionally disciplined engineer with expertise in electromechanical systems to join the R&D Mechanical Engineering Characterization Team. This team is responsible for the feasibility and development of next-generation products, focusing on continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology. The role is high visibility and high impact, aimed at achieving Dexcom's product performance and reliability goals through functional excellence in research, development, and characterization of enabling technologies and designs. The engineer will be tasked with designing and developing novel test methods, including related fixturing and equipment, to support the characterization of device performance attributes, particularly in electromechanical functions. In this position, you will define and execute broad characterization strategies and test plans to measure performance across the entire product design lifecycle. This includes extensive data analysis using engineering statistics best practices to drive data-based decisions. Collaboration with advanced research, materials engineering, design verification, and operations teams is essential to create and mature measurement systems and methodologies for characterizing, verifying, and validating Dexcom products. You will also work with cross-functional partners to solve challenging technical problems and identify creative solutions to mitigate issues. Success in this role requires extensive test development experience, particularly in the medical device industry, along with strong data analysis skills and familiarity with electronics-based, multi-disciplinary products. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to translate high-level product requirements into technical requirements and related test methods. Experience with lab and measurement equipment is crucial, as is a willingness to innovate and challenge the status quo in a fast-paced R&D environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are necessary to operate independently and effectively communicate results to leadership and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop novel test methods and related fixturing and equipment to support characterization of device performance attributes.
  • Define and execute broad characterization strategies and test plans to measure performance across the product design lifecycle.
  • Perform extensive data analysis using engineering statistics best practices to drive data-based decisions.
  • Collaborate with advanced research, materials engineering, design verification, and operations teams to create and mature measurement systems and methodologies.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to solve technical problems and identify creative solutions.
  • Drive workstreams independently and compile data for readout to communicate results to leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 5-8 years related experience, or a Master's degree with 2-5 years equivalent industry experience, or a PhD with 0-2 years experience.
  • Extensive test development experience, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Skilled in data analysis methods and analysis software, with the ability to design experiments to solve complex problems.
  • Depth of knowledge in electronics-based, multi-disciplinary products and technologies.
  • Demonstrated product development experience with the ability to translate high-level product requirements into technical requirements.
  • Familiarity with lab and measurement equipment, adept at leveraging these tools for characterization.
  • Prior experience with sealing methods preferred (e.g., welding, gluing, mechanical seals).
