Senior Embryologist

About the position

The Senior Embryologist at Northwell Health is responsible for providing guidance and direction to trainees and embryologists while performing advanced reproductive techniques. This role involves the preparation and insemination of oocytes, cultivation of embryos, and various micromanipulation techniques essential for assisted fertilization. The position requires a high level of expertise in IVF procedures and the ability to maintain laboratory standards and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Properly prepares glassware used for IVF media preparation, including volumetric glass and pipettes, and provides guidance to trainees/embryologists.
• Ensures proper preparation of various media for sperm washing and capacitation, sterilizing by filtration and adjusting osmolarity and pH.
• Identifies and quantifies the presence of polymorphonuclear leukocytes.
• Prepares human eggs for insemination and performs insemination in culture, ensuring proper inspection and identification of oocyte maturity.
• Performs micromanipulation and prepares microtools for macromanipulation.
• Executes intracytoplasmic sperm injection and assisted hatching using high power microscopes and micromanipulating equipment.
• Prepares testicular biopsy specimens and performs sperm cryopreservation and thawing.
• Ensures proper loading of catheters for embryo transfer and maintains equipment and supply inventory for IVF.
• Contacts outside companies for equipment information and maintains communication with research and technical divisions.
• Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

• Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience required.
