About the position

The Employee and Labor Relations Specialist at Florida International University (FIU) plays a crucial role in supporting the administration, development, and implementation of employee and labor relations programs and policies. This position involves conducting investigations into employee misconduct, managing employee relations cases, and ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable labor laws. The specialist will engage with various stakeholders to resolve employee concerns and provide coaching and training on personnel policies and investigative processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex activities in support of the employee and labor relations program and policies.
  • Conduct investigations of allegations of employee misconduct and violations of university policies.
  • Track and maintain the flow of employee concerns from initial complaint to final disposition.
  • Engage appropriate parties to resolve escalated employee relations concerns.
  • Assist in coaching and training employees and managers on employee relations and personnel policies.
  • Manage a load of employee relations cases, providing coaching and counseling to staff.
  • Conduct and finalize internal investigations of allegations of employee misconduct.
  • Report findings and provide recommendations for resolving issues.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and assessments of complex employee relations issues.
  • Gather and analyze information in support of internal investigations.
  • Prepare and finalize appropriate actions with clear presentation of facts and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and university policies.
  • Administer and interpret policies and agreements for management and staff.
  • Maintain the Employee & Labor Relations tracking system and employee files.
  • Act as a lead specialist in reviewing disciplinary actions and providing recommendations.
  • Respond to information requests with confidentiality and support university administrators in various areas.
  • Facilitate exit interviews and provide analysis of employee responses.
  • Assist the University's bargaining team during labor negotiations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of HR experience or Master's degree and three (3) years of HR experience.
  • Experience with collective bargaining.
  • A thorough understanding of federal and state labor laws.
  • Experience in conducting workplace investigations.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $70,000 - $75,000.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
