About the position

The Senior Employee Relations Consultant role at National Heritage Academies (NHA) is responsible for supporting Principals, Deans, and Managers throughout the organization with complex employee related matters. This position will assist leaders in leading investigations, providing guidance on employee performance concerns, and addressing employee misconduct, union prevention, and policy management. The Senior Employee Relations Consultant is also responsible to assist and/or own completely the writing of employee discipline, policies and procedures, as well as investigative reports for all levels inside and outside of the organization. This position will also be the lead on high level projects related to the employee relations field within the organization. This position is able to work independently with any leader at any level within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on employee related matters (employee misconduct, employee poor performance, employee concerns, policy explanation, and other employee related matters).
  • Develop and document employee discipline, performance letters, concerns, and other communications to employees.
  • Responsible to approve all terminations of employment and assisting leaders throughout the termination process.
  • Develop severance packages and deliver these packages to employees.
  • Strategize with leaders regarding position eliminations and FTE reductions.
  • Provide guidance regarding employee related matters (handling difficult phone conversations, conflict resolution, and guidance with challenging employee matters).
  • Work with outside legal counsel on high risk employee relations matters.
  • Organize and prepare documentation for employee personnel file requests as necessary.
  • Draft school specific policies and procedures.
  • Assist in employee dispute resolution.
  • Conduct investigation on high level employee misconduct at all levels in the organization.
  • Own and assist in projects on key indicatives in the organization to help improve the practices of the organization.
  • Review and update employee handbook to ensure its compliance with state and Federal laws.
  • Complete data requests on employee relations matters (employee discipline, attendance, employee demographics).
  • Assess and minimize risk with a variety of employee relations issues.
  • Train and develop leaders on employee relations practices.
  • Lead contact for the organization with EEOC claims and other litigation matters.
  • Research and stay up to date with National Labor Relations Act implications to school operations.
  • Consult with leaders on union prevention strategies.
  • Provide tactical and strategic support to the People Services Business Partners.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to leaders and employees on a variety of topics.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or Business Management area of study.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in a Human Resources Role, preferably Employee Relations or Labor Relations.
  • Experience with employee discipline and termination proceedings.
  • Ability to use generalized software systems (i.e., CRM, HRIS, Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Extensive experience with employee discipline and termination proceedings.
  • Attention to detail and organization.
  • Able to prioritize and manage a wide variety and high quantity of tasks at any given time.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with leaders in order to attain 'trusted advisor' status.
  • Up to date on employee laws and trends.
  • Calm demeanor and approach in difficult and trying situations.
  • Must have a full knowledge of human resources practices and trends.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to lead project teams and keep projects on track.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Must be able to provide guidance and to coaching team members in a way to help and benefit their growth.
