About the position

McKinstry is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Partner to join our Human Resource division in Seattle, Washington. This role is pivotal in leading employee relations issues and investigations across the company. The Senior Employee Relations Partner will work closely with HR colleagues, legal counsel, and corporate/business leaders to address complex employee-related concerns. This includes conducting investigations or coaching HR peers through the process of employee coaching and mentoring on various employee relation topics. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining clear and consistent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for managing employee relations, ensuring that all practices align with McKinstry's values and compliance requirements. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert on employee relations and investigations, conducting thorough and impartial investigations into sensitive issues such as discrimination, harassment, and policy violations. You will prepare detailed investigation reports that include findings and recommendations, while also identifying any process gaps that could expose the organization to legal risks. Your strategic input will help refine and implement effective employee relations strategies that align with organizational goals and values. Additionally, you will partner with various HR teams to identify trends and issues, and develop restorative initiatives to support teams and employees post-investigation. The Senior Employee Relations Partner will also play a crucial role in internal partnerships and coaching, providing guidance and support to HR colleagues on performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions. You will lead training sessions to enhance the skills of HR colleagues in handling employee investigations and create toolkits to empower managers in addressing employee-related matters effectively. This position requires a strong commitment to fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity within the workplace, ensuring that all employees feel valued and supported.

Responsibilities

  • Lead employee relations issues and investigations company-wide for the HR team.
  • Consult with HR colleagues, legal counsel, and corporate/business leaders on complex employee-related concerns.
  • Conduct prompt, fair, impartial, and thorough investigations into sensitive employee relations issues.
  • Prepare investigation reports with clear findings and recommendations.
  • Analyze, refine, and implement effective employee relations strategies and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, proactively addressing potential risks.
  • Partner cross-functionally across HR to identify and elevate people trends and issues.
  • Explore and develop restorative initiatives following investigations.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to HR colleagues on employee relations issues.
  • Build solid working relationships with HRBP teams and evaluate operational efficiency.
  • Lead training sessions to enhance HR colleagues' skills in employee investigations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years' progressive experience in employee relations or complaint investigations.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting complex investigations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to build trust-based relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data and identify trends.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
