About the position

The Senior Employee Relations Specialist at West Coast University plays a crucial role in supporting and guiding associates in a student-centered environment. This position involves addressing employee concerns, mediating conflicts, and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures. The specialist will conduct internal investigations, manage leave of absence claims, and collaborate with management to promote fair treatment and compliance with employment laws.

Responsibilities

• Meet with associates to address concerns and educate them on organizational policies and procedures.
• Encourage problem resolution through the chain of command and mediate differences between associates and supervisors.
• Serve as a resource for associates and management on issues that may risk the company's interests.
• Coordinate with managers to ensure adherence to policies for initiating disciplinary processes.
• Conduct internal investigations and produce findings and reports at the conclusion of investigations.
• Process all leave of absence claims from associates and manage workers compensation claims.
• Research and coordinate responses to external legal correspondence, lawsuits, and complaints.
• Advise management on appropriate corrective actions and participate in separation meetings.

Requirements

• Minimum five years of employee relations experience.
• Experience in a higher education or academic environment preferred.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal laws related to Human Resources functions.
• Experience in conducting internal investigations and employee counseling.
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or a related field required.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in Business Administration or Human Resources Management preferred.
• PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
