About the position

As a Senior Engineer Automation & Controls (SCADA) at American Water, you will play a crucial role in implementing, maintaining, and supporting the automation and process control infrastructure. This position is hybrid, requiring three days in the office or field and two days remote, and is based in the Rosemead, California office. You will be responsible for providing expert assistance and collaborating with teams to create engineering plans and designs, as well as monitoring, building, and commissioning automation and process control systems. Your expertise will be essential in understanding and applying new technological systems and multiple vendor products to develop innovative solutions that align with operational and business requirements. In this role, you will assist in the development of standards, practices, and policies related to the installation, maintenance, and operations of automation and process control systems. You will also be tasked with developing, deploying, and maintaining both standard and custom programming and configuration code for these systems. Additionally, you will provide second-level support for maintaining the automation and process control infrastructure, which may include on-call duties and on-site support when necessary. Managing automation and process control system projects will also be part of your responsibilities, along with performing quality assurance checks as required. This position may involve managing direct reports, contributing to the leadership and development of your team.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in automation and process control systems, particularly SCADA.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices related to automation.
  • Experience with programming and configuration of automation systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply new technologies.
