About the position

As a Senior Engineer-Automation at Wesco, you will play a pivotal role in the architecture and development of automation solutions that enhance the efficiency of our network operations. Your primary responsibility will be to lead the integration and deployment of commercially available fulfillment systems that interact with automation technologies. This will significantly improve material movement and handling within our operations. You will also support the creation and communication of the Global Automation Roadmap, ensuring that our automation strategies align with the overall business objectives. In this role, you will collaborate closely with both the Information Technology and Operations teams to define, implement, and establish guidelines for automation processes that enhance warehouse operations. You will be responsible for reviewing and interpreting project specifications, managing budgets, schedules, and the scope of design, and participating in simulation and emulation activities to validate automation solutions. Your expertise will also be required in evaluating automation systems through cost analysis and capital expenditure requests, working alongside the Finance team to justify automation projects. You will educate and train members of the technology deployment and warehouse operations teams on the architecture, usability, and functionality of automation systems. Your leadership will be crucial in implementing automation projects from design through to production, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, you will design holistic hardware and software solutions to address complex problems with fluid requirements, driving continuous improvement and efficiency through automation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Information Technology and Operations teams to define, implement, and create guidelines for automation to enhance warehouse operation processes.
  • Review and interpret project specifications. Manage budget, schedule, and scope of design. Participate in simulation/emulation.
  • Work with the Finance team to evaluate automation systems through cost analysis and capital expenditure requests to justify automation projects.
  • Educate and provide training for members of technology deployment and warehouse operations on automation system architecture, usability, and functionality.
  • Implement automation projects starting with design through production on time and within budget.
  • Design holistic hardware and software solutions for problem solving with fluid requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement and efficiency through automation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Robotics Engineering or similar; Masters preferred.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in a similar position and exposure.
  • Established background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems.
  • CAD experience and understanding of best practices.
  • Proficiency with eCAD tools.
  • Hands-on experience crafting proof-of-concept models and prototypes.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts and write technical documents.
  • Experience evaluating designs, performance, and logistical tradeoffs for hardware systems.

  • Preferred licenses/certificates: Certified Automation Professional (CAP); Project Management Professional (PMP); Six Sigma.
