About the position

The Systems Engineer position at GE Vernova focuses on the design, creation, and optimization of power systems, particularly in the context of HVDC and renewable energy. The role involves conducting in-depth system studies, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing innovative solutions to enhance system performance. The engineer will work autonomously while adhering to established policies and will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and improving engineering processes.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform in-depth system studies including Load Flow, Reactive Capability, and Power Factor Studies.
  • Direct and oversee third-party providers for various system studies.
  • Utilize simulation tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, and ETAP for system analysis.
  • Provide technical communication and guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Develop and industrialize innovative solutions and processes for system studies.
  • Review and improve design processes and enforce engineering discipline across tasks.
  • Represent the business in external events by publishing technical papers.
  • Support and mentor other engineers to enhance team knowledge and competence.
  • Report and resolve non-conformances in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in network or transient studies for HVDC/FACTS/Renewable Energy.
  • Minimum 5 years of working knowledge of NERC and FERC compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with NERC standards such as TPL, MOD, and PRC.
  • Minimum 5 years of familiarity with ISOs such as PJM, ERCOT, and CAISO.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power systems.
  • Knowledge of system tools such as SIMULINK and MATLAB.
  • Experience with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) studies and low/high voltage ride-through studies.
  • Professional Engineering license.
