About the position

The Senior Engineer - Electrified Systems Controls at Toyota is a pivotal role focused on the development of innovative electric vehicle (EV) and home energy ecosystem products. This position involves leading research and development efforts to create connected electrical systems that support Toyota's electrification and carbon reduction initiatives. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to bring new products to market while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Research current existing systems in the market, understanding North American (NA) trends.
  • Develop a strategy for proof-of-concept system, simulation, and analysis of new business proposals with the aim of launching as a NA market product.
  • Coordinate with others in R&D, NA headquarters to create comprehensive business cases.
  • Work collaboratively with other NA and R&D departments, Toyota Japan, and suppliers to bring products to market.
  • Support investigations for solving unplanned market phenomena that require immediate detection and resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • Extensive Electrical engineering knowledge with quality first mindset (7+ years)
  • Complex electrical system development experience (such as vehicle charging system, stationary energy storage system, V2G, V2L and V2H)
  • Electronics or connected technology development experience (cloud computing, App etc.)
  • Experience of developing and executing test/validation plans of above systems
  • Project management skills to track and report progress to deliver high-quality technical output on time
  • Extensive knowledge of regulations and standards (such as SAE, UL, IEEE) related to these systems
  • Hands-on experience mentoring engineers

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Experience in powertrain controls development
  • Experience and knowledge of CATIA to understand component design
  • Japanese language proficiency
