About the position

As a Senior Engineer in Grid Integration and Stability at GE Vernova, you will be part of a dynamic team that provides consulting services across the spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. This role involves engaging with a global clientele, leveraging your expertise in power systems and power electronics to contribute to various business initiatives. You will be responsible for performing technical analyses related to power electronic systems and power systems control, particularly focusing on renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, and large industrial drives. Your work will include modeling, analysis, equipment design, and specification, as well as conducting failure mode analyses to ensure the reliability and efficiency of power systems. In this position, you will create, modify, and parametrize simulation models for GE products such as wind turbines, solar inverters, and battery storage systems. You will evaluate grid code compliance and assess the impact of renewable projects on bulk power systems. Your contributions will also extend to the continuous development of transmission and distribution products associated with inverter-based resources, ensuring they meet evolving codes and standards. You will actively participate in industry standards groups and lead innovative approaches to power system analysis, enhancing the overall quality and effectiveness of our solutions. Your role will require you to perform power system transient studies and detailed equipment modeling using advanced simulation tools. You will effectively communicate your findings to both internal and external stakeholders through detailed reports and presentations, showcasing the analyses performed and the value propositions developed for customers. Additionally, you will enhance your industry knowledge and present technical content at regional forums and conferences, establishing yourself as a thought leader in the field. Responsibilities

  • Perform technical analysis related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives and FACTS.
  • Support customers with power systems engineering expertise, including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis.
  • Create, modify and parametrize simulation models representing GE products like wind turbines, solar inverters, battery storage.
  • Evaluate grid code compliance and impact of renewable projects in bulk power systems.
  • Support continuous development of transmission and distribution products associated to inverter-based resources for evolving codes and standards.
  • Perform power system transient studies and detailed equipment modeling using appropriate software tools.
  • Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations.
  • Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences; serve as a thought leader in industry activities.
  • Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of Industry experience performing transient analysis using simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV and/or steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSLF.
  • Minimum 1 year of Experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, FORTRAN, C, C++ MATLAB).

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study.
  • Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards working groups.
  • Experience creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory and PSLF.
  • Advanced experience in electromagnetic transient simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV.
  • Advanced experience with dynamic and time-domain simulation tools (e.g. FORTRAN programming of user-written black box models in PSCAD, use of MATLAB or Python scripting to automate execution and analysis of multiple simulations).
  • Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems.
