About the position

The Senior Engineer in Hardware Development Engineering at Western Digital is responsible for developing robust processes for the fabrication of Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) devices. This role involves working as a night shift wafer process integration engineer within the HAMR NFT integration group at the Fremont wafer fab. The position requires extensive collaboration with module engineers and interfacing with design, process, test, and characterization teams to deliver next-generation HAMR products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust processes for the fabrication of HAMR NFT devices.
  • Collaborate with module engineers in various areas to ensure successful integration of processes.
  • Interface extensively with engineers and scientists in design, process, test, and characterization groups.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in Materials Science, Physics, or Chemistry.
  • 5-8 years of experience in a related engineering field.
  • Innovative and detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in JMP or equivalent data analysis software.
  • Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in semiconductor and/or magnetic head wafer processing.
  • Experience with systems and tool sets in wafer fab.
  • Expertise in lithography, thin film deposition, ion milling, reactive ion etching, electroplating, CMP, SEM, FIB, TEM, AFM, or optical metrology.

  • Competitive salary range of $79,305.00 - $112,300.00.
