About the position

As a Senior Hardware Engineer at Watlow, you will play a vital role in the development and redesign of hardware solutions for our diverse clientele spanning semiconductor, energy, and environmental technologies. This dynamic role is not just about engineering; it's about building relationships, identifying opportunities for product redesigns and upgrades, designing, and analyzing circuits, ensuring product functionality, and coordinating with other functions to meet our customers' challenges. You will collaborate with teams to identify product improvement opportunities and possess a base knowledge of thermal control systems and associated multi-loop control interaction. Your electrical engineering expertise will be utilized to modify and verify custom control configurations, while also ensuring compliance with NEC standards and UL508a standards. In this position, you will work with and understand Control System communication practices and architecture specific to standard bus protocols. Partnering with our manufacturing teams, you will ensure that the final product can be built to the highest quality standards and delivered on time, while possessing a basic understanding of IPC 620. You will develop and perform product test plans to validate hardware designs and generate or review comprehensive technical documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and design specifications. Staying at the forefront of technology, you will actively research and incorporate the latest advancements in hardware development, while also developing and nurturing strong relationships with key customers both internal and external.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams to identify product improvement opportunities.
  • Possess a base knowledge of thermal control systems and associated multi-loop control interaction.
  • Utilize electrical engineering expertise to modify and verify custom control configurations.
  • Understand and apply NEC standards and UL508a standards.

  • Generate/review comprehensive technical documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and design specifications.
  • Stay at the forefront of technology by actively researching and incorporating the latest advancements in hardware development.
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with key customers both internal and external.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 3-4 years of experience related to electrical control system development.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Proficient in electrical circuit design and analysis.
  • Basic knowledge in embedded, analog, and/or power electronics design.
  • Basic understanding of design for EMI/EMC.
  • Proficient in understanding schematics and wire circuits.
  • Proficient in use of standard test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to logically troubleshoot control systems and subcomponents.
  • Proficient understanding of application and critical characteristics of typical electrical components including contactors, circuit breakers, fuses, capacitors, diodes, inductors, linear and switching regulators, ADCs.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exhibit these required qualifications and guide junior engineers.

Nice-to-haves
