About the position

As a Senior Hardware Development Engineer at Watlow, you will play a vital role in the development and redesign of hardware solutions for our diverse clientele spanning semiconductor, medical, food, energy, and environmental technologies. This dynamic role is not just about engineering; it's about building relationships, identifying opportunities for product redesigns and upgrades, designing, and simulating circuits, ensuring product functionality, and coordinating with other functions to meet our customers' challenges. You will collaborate with teams to identify product improvement opportunities, utilize your electrical engineering expertise to design and simulate circuits that meet technical specifications and performance criteria, and work closely with the layout team to design printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are optimized for manufacturability and functionality. Additionally, you will have an understanding of the relationship between hardware and firmware/software in a microcontroller/microprocessor electrical system, and you will employ systematic methods for the detection and/or prevention of potential design and/or process issues through DFMEA. Your responsibilities will also include partnering with our manufacturing teams to ensure that the final product can be built to the highest quality standards and delivered on time, developing and performing product test plans to validate hardware designs, and generating comprehensive technical documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and design specifications. You will be expected to stay at the forefront of technology by actively researching and incorporating the latest advancements in hardware development, while also developing and nurturing strong relationships with key customers both internal and external.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams to identify product improvement opportunities.

  • Understand the relationship between hardware and firmware/software in a microcontroller/microprocessor electrical system.
  • Employ systematic methods for the detection and/or prevention of potential design and/or process issues through DFMEA.
  • Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure that the final product can be built to the highest quality standards and delivered on time.
  • Develop and perform product test plans to validate hardware designs.
  • Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and design specifications.
  • Stay at the forefront of technology by actively researching and incorporating the latest advancements in hardware development.
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with key customers both internal and external.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of six years of experience related to electronics design.
  • Knowledge in electrical circuit design and simulation.
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: embedded, analog, power supply or power electronics design.
  • Understanding of design for EMI/ EMC.
  • Knowledge in understanding PCB component level schematics.
  • Experience in use of standard test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to logically troubleshoot PCBs to the component level.
  • Understanding of application and critical characteristics of typical electronics components including resistors, capacitors, diodes, inductors, digital logic microcontrollers and processors, linear and switching regulators, ADCs, etc.
  • Experience with PCB design tools and software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Fluent in English.
  • Ability to exhibit these required qualifications and guide junior engineers.
  • Experience in Customer-facing roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of ARM-based embedded programming.
  • Experience in Python to automate and streamline product development.
  • Knowledge of UL and IEC standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of CAN and J1939 networks along with other Communication networks.
