About the position

The Senior Engineer (Hardware) at Data Device Corporation is responsible for designing, developing, and testing advanced communications technology for the aerospace, defense, and space industries. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure hardware meets performance and reliability standards, while also providing mentorship to junior engineers. The position requires a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and a commitment to quality, with a focus on continuous improvement in hardware design processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of circuit card assemblies (CCAs) including component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout support.
  • Create and execute test plans, perform simulations, and validate hardware designs to ensure high performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, IP developers, and other stakeholders to integrate CCAs into larger systems.
  • Troubleshoot and debug hardware issues during development and production phases.
  • Analyze and improve circuit card designs for performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of design processes, test results, and revisions.
  • Develop plans, schedules, and identify resources required to develop products from market requirement through product release.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, sharing expertise and best practices in hardware design and development.
  • Research, develop, propose, evaluate and/or implement new methods, processes, techniques, tools, components, or technology that improve quality, timeliness and/or performance of DDC's products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • 8-15 years of experience in hardware design and development, including hands-on experience with complex projects that include FPGAs and Microcontrollers.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Cadence Orcad, Cadence Allegro).
  • Proven experience in designing high speed digital designs (e.g. PCI, PCIe, USB and Thunderbolt).
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics, signal integrity, power and thermal management.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience of DO-254 certification process throughout all (SOI) Stages of Involvement phases.
  • Experience with environmental testing standards (e.g., thermal, shock & vibration).
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC-429.
  • Knowledge of Multi Chip Module (MCM) designs is a plus.
