About the position

As a Senior Engineer - Industrial Engines at Caterpillar, you will play a crucial role in interfacing with various product groups to ensure optimal performance matching of industrial engines. This position focuses on delivering superior engine system performance for CAT C7.2 - C18 and Perkins 1506-2806 engines, contributing to the design, manufacture, and marketing of industrial engines. You will be responsible for collecting engine requirements for new product introduction (NPI) programs and resolving performance-related issues, ultimately supporting Caterpillar's mission to build a better world through innovative engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engine platform recommendations for all applications.
  • Refine and collect product group performance requirements such as lug curves, fluid consumption, and heat rejection.
  • Resolve requirement vs capability gaps and generate performance spec requests (PSRs) for the engine development team.
  • Interface with product group performance engineers and other teams to develop engine systems that meet customer expectations.
  • Prepare and present engine system requirements material for IPSD-L engine NPI GW reviews.
  • Assist with performance-related NPI, CPI, and factory hot test issue resolution.
  • Support field data analytics projects by mining machine operating profile data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical thinking techniques and tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively transmit and interpret information.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives and projects effectively.
  • Extensive knowledge of engine performance and emissions, with problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience with CANape or data analytics programs.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of engine and/or machine performance/analysis experience.
  • Analysis skills using DaTK, Matlab, and Simulink.
  • Simulation experience using DYNASTY and Simulink.
