About the position

The Senior Engineer - Performance Excellence at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, is responsible for leading performance improvement projects within UAB Medicine's ambulatory clinics and inpatient departments. This role involves acting as an in-house consultant to enhance efficiency and resource utilization, requiring minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer will engage in various activities, including workflow observation, data analysis, and presenting improvement recommendations to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct performance improvement projects throughout UAB Medicine's ambulatory clinics and inpatient departments.
  • Create project charters and observe workflows while interviewing clinic staff.
  • Collect and analyze relevant baseline data to formulate recommendations for improvement.
  • Present reports to key project stakeholders and facilitate the implementation of recommendations.
  • Lead project teams and direct other staff or student interns on project work.
  • Evaluate and modify work processes related to patient flow, safety, resource utilization, and satisfaction.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary work groups to address organizational challenges or goals.
  • Provide data analysis and facilitate process improvement teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in industrial engineering, health systems engineering, or related engineering field.
  • Three years of experience in healthcare process improvement.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or the ability to obtain it within three years of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Health Care Administration, Healthcare Quality & Safety, Operations Research, or related field.
