About the position

WANTED: A mission-driven professional with 20 years of experience and an active Secret clearance to become our next Senior Engineer (Power, Dynamics, Propulsion) Knowledge Base Systems (KBS) at the Government's facility in West Bethesda, MD (NSWCCD). As KBS Senior Engineer (Power, Dynamics, Propulsion), you will provide critical support in protecting our country. You will work with a team of driven, supportive, and highly skilled professionals supporting KBS and the NSWCCD Program office. A week in the life of a Senior Engineer (Power, Dynamics, Propulsion) will involve providing Senior Engineering expertise and leadership in the acquisition of engineering and technical Knowledge Based Services (KBS) in support of NSWCCD Code 80, other NSWCCD Codes, and NSWCCD sponsors. Your mission will include research, design and development, test and evaluation, and ongoing operational assessment of model-scale and full-scale surface ships, submarines, small craft, and specialized platforms including sea-based aviation and off-board systems such as amphibious vehicles, autonomous and unmanned vehicles, off-board vehicles, stationary or submersible rigs, tethered systems, and towed or moored sensor systems. You will also provide Senior Engineering support to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division's (NSWCCD) Naval Architecture and Engineering Department (Code 80) in all areas of the PWS including research, engineering, and naval architecture on surface ships, submarines, small craft, and specialized platforms. Your Senior Engineering duties will encompass project management, maintaining the Electronic Document Library (eDL), conducting meetings and In-Progress Reviews (IPR), and providing programmatic support. You will also engage in research and development (R&D) support, hydrodynamics and aerodynamics engineering support, design and development, systems engineering support, and support of on-site test and fabrication facilities. Additionally, you will be involved in modeling and simulation (M&S) support, design documentation and technical data support, T&E support, and managing CDRL deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Senior Engineering expertise and leadership in acquisition of engineering and technical Knowledge Based Services (KBS) in support of NSWCCD Code 80 and other NSWCCD Codes.
  • Support the research, design and development, test and evaluation, and ongoing operational assessment of model-scale and full-scale surface ships, submarines, small craft, and specialized platforms.
  • Provide Senior Engineering support to the Naval Architecture and Engineering Department (Code 80) in all areas of the PWS including research, engineering, and naval architecture.
  • Engage in project management, maintain the Electronic Document Library (eDL), and conduct meetings and In-Progress Reviews (IPR).
  • Provide programmatic support and engage in research and development (R&D) support.
  • Support hydrodynamics and aerodynamics engineering, design and development, and systems engineering.
  • Assist in on-site test and fabrication facilities, modeling and simulation (M&S) support, and design documentation and technical data support.
  • Manage T&E support and CDRL deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Marine (Ocean), or Naval Architecture (Naval Engineering).
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Approximately twenty (20) years of verifiable experience in leading the research, development, and test and evaluation of platforms and systems.
  • Experience in powering and dynamics studies, performing complex calculations for power, transmission, and propulsion characteristics.
  • Experience leading theoretical and experimental investigations of ship or submarine powering and dynamics, and propulsion and power transmission systems.
  • Experience developing advanced techniques regarding propeller and propulsor design, development, analysis, and conducting experiments such as simulation or scale-model testing.
  • Experience utilizing hydrodynamic test facilities coordination and test protocol required in cavitation tunnels, straight-line tow basin, rotating arm (fixed) basin, and free-running (autonomous model) basin.
