About the position

The Senior Engineer (Power, Dynamics, Propulsion) Knowledge Based Systems role at AMERICAN SYSTEMS involves providing critical engineering support for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division. The position requires extensive experience in engineering disciplines related to power, dynamics, and propulsion systems, with a focus on research, design, development, and testing of various naval platforms. The role emphasizes leadership, project management, and collaboration within a team of skilled professionals, contributing to national defense efforts.

Responsibilities

• Provide Senior Engineering expertise and leadership in acquisition of engineering and technical Knowledge Based Services (KBS) in support of NSWCCD.
• Support research, design, development, test and evaluation of model-scale and full-scale naval platforms.
• Provide engineering support in areas including hull forms, propulsion, platform dynamics, and hydrodynamics.
• Manage projects and support programmatic activities related to engineering tasks.
• Conduct research and development support, including hydrodynamics and aerodynamics engineering support.
• Assist in design documentation and technical data support, including CDRL deliverables.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Marine, or Naval Architecture.
• Active Secret Security Clearance.
• Approximately 20 years of experience in research, development, and test and evaluation of platforms and systems.
• Experience in powering and dynamics studies, complex calculations for power and propulsion characteristics, and leading investigations of propulsion systems.
• Familiarity with hydrodynamic test facilities and coordination of test protocols.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with simulation or scale-model testing of propulsion systems.
• Knowledge of advanced techniques in propeller and propulsor design.
