About the position

The Senior Engineer - Process Studies at Alcon plays a crucial role in the U.S. Development of Process & Pilot Engineering Team, focusing on process development and upscaling studies for new medical device products. This position involves defining manufacturing processes, analyzing data to improve yields and reduce defects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure project success. The role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and statistical analysis to support the development of innovative eye care solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts process development and process upscaling studies for new medical device products.
  • Defines process and process specifications for contact lens manufacturing process.
  • Runs studies to gain fundamental process understanding and uses this knowledge to improve yields and reduce defects.
  • Analyzes data to assess sources of variation in the process and understand cause and effect relationships.
  • Documents study design, results, next steps, and process knowledge.
  • Communicates results and next steps to various teams within R&D.
  • Supports process development timeline by completing tasks on schedule.
  • Collaborates with associates from multiple disciplines to ensure project success.
  • Seeks input and feedback from peers and manager for continuous improvement.
  • Provides guidance to others on the team and resolves issues encountered.
  • Designs, executes, and analyzes Engineering Studies in lab, pilot line, and MTO production lines.
  • Documents study designs using graphical sampling plans and Factor Relationship Diagrams (FRDs).
  • Performs data analysis including process performance index (Ppk), ANOVA, regression, Chi-square, etc.
  • Applies intermediate level principles of engineering and/or chemistry analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a related field.
  • Ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Experience in high-speed manufacturing.
  • Work experience in FDA regulated industry, specifically medical devices or contact lenses.
  • Experience in statistical analysis using JMP or Minitab and/or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher).
  • Experience writing, executing, and analyzing Engineering Studies.
