About the position

The Senior Protection & Control Engineer at Qualus will play a pivotal role in the Substation Protection and Control department, focusing on the design and implementation of protective relaying and communications systems for major utility substations. This position requires a seasoned engineer with over 7 years of experience, who is ready to take on management responsibilities and lead projects while ensuring quality and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Substation Physical Engineering, Relay Settings, and other groups to ensure design concurrence.
  • Develop complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications systems, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC schematics, DC schematics, logic and functional diagrams, panel layouts, control house layouts, wiring/connection diagrams, interconnection diagrams, relaying equipment specifications and bill of materials.
  • Develop SCADA packages, including input/output list (Point Data Sheet).
  • Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to drafters, engineering technicians, and less experienced engineers.
  • Develop, nurture, and maintain trusted relationships with senior level engineers, managers, and executives with current or prospective clients.
  • Present technical solutions to key customers confidently and respond to technical concerns in real time.
  • Direct and/or participate in client meetings/job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
  • Ensure the company's Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are followed on all design packages.
  • Delegate, plan, prioritize, and review the work of other engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a power systems focus, or an MS Degree in engineering in lieu of the BS Engineering degree.
  • Seven or more years of electrical engineering experience, with required experience in protection and control engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or plan to become registered is required; Professional Engineering registration in the working state is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
