About the position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Engineer in Research and Development to lead the research and development of new chemicals and application methods aimed at enhancing the longevity of carbon/ceramic composite brakes for both commercial and military aircraft. This role involves managing multiple projects, developing new materials, and ensuring compliance with performance standards, all while working onsite at the Pueblo, CO facility.

Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and characterize new carbon materials and processes for high temperature aircraft brake components.
  • Manage multiple R&D projects and project task activities, including project plan development and data analysis.
  • Demonstrate self-initiative and maintain accountability for entire tasks/projects.
  • Propose and create new procedures as required to address complex problems.
  • Execute projects as a team member with limited oversight, demonstrating problem-solving skills and creativity.
  • Support production investigations as needed and communicate technical findings to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in preparing solutions, compounds, and reagents for laboratory procedures.
  • Experience in conducting tests on materials to ensure performance and quality standards are met.
  • Proven ability to write comprehensive technical reports detailing methods and findings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering focusing on Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Composites.
  • Experience in manufacturing and characterization of fiber-reinforced carbon/carbon and ceramic matrix composite materials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in high temperature material characterization and processing.
  • Knowledge of advanced material characterization tools such as SEM/EDS and X-Ray Diffraction.
