About the position

The System Scheduling Performance team at Apple is seeking a highly motivated systems software engineer to develop and optimize a background task scheduler that enhances resource management across various platforms. This role involves quantitative analysis of high-dimensional data to derive insights and implement new capabilities for process runtime and resource utilization. The engineer will work on key performance metrics, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive the adoption of innovative operating system concepts.

Responsibilities

• Develop, analyze, and present key performance metrics, tools, dashboards, reports, and infrastructure for OS features.
• Design, implement, optimize, and promote new operating system constructs for intelligent resource management.
• Write elegant, performant code and conduct testing, debugging, and productization.
• Rapidly prototype new ideas and features in collaboration with team members.
• Consult with and influence other teams to drive the adoption of new APIs.

Requirements

• Strong programming background with 2+ years of experience after a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Clear understanding of operating system components and responsibilities.
• Strong foundation in statistics and data analysis to derive insights from large datasets.
• Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with strong statistical skills.
• Familiarity with Python, Objective C, or Swift.
• Working knowledge of Operating Systems including memory management and resource contention.
• Experience driving cross-functional projects with diverse stakeholders.
• Proven track record of leading software projects from inception to delivery.
