About the position

The Senior Engineer - TCLW at Freeport-McMoRan is responsible for supervising tailings projects and feasibility studies, providing technical expertise, and assisting in the management of tailings facilities. This role involves coordinating resources, managing contractors, and ensuring the timely completion of projects while maintaining safety and risk management standards. The engineer will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to budget preparation and project planning.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise tailings projects and feasibility studies.
  • Provide technical expertise and assist the Responsible tailings facility engineer.
  • Manage a tailings feasibility level study and coordinate resources with the engineering manager.
  • Develop and review scopes of work and evaluate proposals.
  • Administer contracts with vendors for services and equipment.
  • Review and improve tailings and water management systems and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams and review reports for design and operations projects.
  • Contribute to annual operational and sustaining capital budget preparation.
  • Manage and mentor engineers in key practice areas.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements and determine associated value for risk reduction measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline and five years of experience; or a Master's degree and three years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent relevant certification.
  • Knowledge in Civil, Geologic, Geotechnical, or Hydrologic Engineering principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated technical competence in tailings storage facilities, crushed leach facilities, water dams, or slurry transport.
  • Proficient in MS Office and engineering tools (CAD, analytical, mapping).
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-motivated and client-service oriented.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical or Water Resources Engineering specialization.
  • PMP certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with metal mining operations, especially tailings storage facilities and water dams.
  • Experience with slurry transport, pumps, and pipelines analysis and design.
  • Experience with cost estimating for civil projects and project scheduling.
  • Experience in geotechnical slope stability instrumentation and monitoring programs.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Bahasa Indonesian languages.
