About the position

The Senior Engineering Design Manager at Brown and Caldwell will lead major municipal water and wastewater design projects, ensuring exceptional service delivery to clients. This senior-level role involves managing project delivery, maintaining client relationships, and supervising design teams, all while focusing on compliance and quality in engineering designs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multi-discipline project delivery for municipal water/wastewater projects to produce compliant, constructable design.
  • Prepare engineering designs, reports, construction plans, specifications, calculations, equipment selection, and cost estimates for various projects.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, pricing, teams, and execution plans in collaboration with project leadership and design discipline leads.
  • Direct multi-discipline design project resources and interface with clients.
  • Lead and document multi-disciplinary design coordination meetings, providing updates and addressing critical issues.
  • Ensure projects meet budget and profitability goals.
  • Maintain existing client relationships and develop new client relationships.
  • Provide consultation in specialized areas, making decisions and solving problems.
  • Participate in improving company resources and tools for design production and efficiency.
  • Prepare and present technical project meetings to clients.
  • Ensure quality of work products within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Supervise and mentor design engineers, fostering professional growth.
  • Evaluate performance of direct reports, manage performance, mentor, and train team members.
  • Serve as liaison between construction administration and engineering teams during construction, coordinating reviews and problem-solving for design-related issues.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering; Master's degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressively increasing responsibility in related experience preferred.
  • Professionally registered engineer (Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical) required; license must be current and in good standing.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills.
  • Ability to focus on client needs while balancing multiple, changing priorities.
  • Strong technical writing skills required.
  • Experience in marketing, proposal writing, proposal management, and public presentations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to conduct effective meetings and prepare written reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead geographically diverse project teams in a virtual and hybrid work environment.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of scheduling software and engineering and capital cost estimating techniques is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-discipline project delivery using building information modeling (BIM).
