About the position

The Senior Manager for the Core Insurance Platform (CIP) organization at GEICO will lead the development and management of a new Workflow Platform Engineering team. This role focuses on creating a next-generation Insurtech platform for Business Process Management, collaborating with both technical and business teams to enhance GEICO's technology capabilities. The Senior Manager will be responsible for driving the technical roadmap, overseeing project delivery, and fostering a culture of growth and accountability within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a Workflow Platform Engineering team.
  • Drive the development of a next-generation Insurtech platform for Business Process Management.
  • Collaborate with technical and business teams to develop a progressive roadmap.
  • Lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap.
  • Prioritize project efforts with stakeholders and deliver projects on time.
  • Identify and raise project risks, presenting detailed solutions or alternatives.
  • Report on team progress and key metrics, suggesting improvements for product delivery.
  • Support performance evaluations of team members and cultivate a motivating culture.
  • Build relationships with team members to foster trust and accountability.
  • Identify skill gaps and create remediation plans for team deliverables.
  • Conduct difficult conversations regarding development and performance.
  • Craft strategic arguments to drive process improvement and enhance customer experience.
  • Develop and manage the team budget, reporting on results regularly.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of modern cloud-based distributed systems design patterns.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Proven ability to learn technical concepts and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts.
  • Fluency with microservice-based architectures and Event Driven Architectures.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, Go).
  • Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
  • Ability to construct and interpret metrics for decision making.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and/or regulatory compliance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a large-scale, mission-critical environment.
  • Hands-on experience supervising personnel in a technical environment.
