About the position

The Senior Engineering Manager for Software Delivery at Apple is a pivotal role within the Software Engineering group, which is celebrated for its commitment to user experience, integration, functionality, and lifestyle. This position is integral to the Software Delivery team, responsible for the seamless delivery of cutting-edge operating systems, applications, and firmware to Apple customers globally. The team operates at the heart of Apple's software development process, ensuring that every product meets the high standards expected by users. The role requires a self-motivated individual who possesses strong technical, communication, and project management skills, capable of leading a diverse engineering team to achieve exceptional results through innovative tools, systems, and services. In this role, you will be tasked with defining and delivering systems and tools that ensure the reliability and performance of both on-premises and cloud-based services. You will also be responsible for establishing services that provide worldwide support, advising and encouraging engineering best practices, particularly in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), to enhance the quality of capabilities delivered. The position demands a leader who can mentor and develop a team, fostering an environment of engineering excellence while maintaining a strong focus on customer needs. Your leadership will be crucial in growing a diverse and extraordinary engineering team that thrives on creativity and collaboration. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will also champion SRE principles, applying them to production services to enable Apple’s Research and Development teams to efficiently and securely develop high-quality features. Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver systems and tools responsible for reliability and performance of on-prem and cloud-based services.
  • Define and deliver services with worldwide support.
  • Advise and encourage engineering best SRE practices to deliver quality capabilities.
  • Define and grow a diverse and extraordinary engineering team.

Requirements

  • Proven record as a software engineering manager for at least 5 years leading a team including DevOps engineers, SRE engineers, or software engineers.
  • Ability to lead multiple projects under time constraints to achieve meaningful results.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems with respect to application, networking, containers, and security.
  • Ability to mentor and develop a team, lead with engineering excellence, and maintain a dedication towards meeting customer needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in development and deployment of software tools supporting internal groups.
  • Management experience working with globally distributed teams.
  • SRE or DevOps experience managing customer-facing systems in a 24/7 environment.
  • Experience with employing a data-driven approach through monitoring, alerting, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency and passion to independently learn new technologies and software frameworks to leverage.
  • Ability to work and influence across teams and organizations.
