About the position

TRC is seeking a highly motivated Senior Engineer for our growing Engineering - Remediation Practice in Madison, Wisconsin. This position would be part of an experienced team that works closely with Project Managers and other technical leads providing technical design and construction of environmental remediation projects. Our engineering staff provide support for permitting, design, and construction of a wide variety of technically challenging projects primarily for industrial, utility, and public sector/private clients. The position focuses on a candidate with the ability to work independently or in a project team with demonstrated excellence in project management, written and oral communications, presentations, analytical, professional judgment, and team building skills. Flexibility to work a hybrid schedule is available. The Senior Engineer will be responsible for developing construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, while also providing bid assistance by preparing bid sheets and reviewing contractor bids. The role involves participating in and overseeing complex environmental projects, including those still in investigation/source area identification, feasibility studies, pre-design investigations, during construction, and post-construction reporting. The candidate should possess technical knowledge and the ability to provide comprehensive project completion from start to finish with support from project staff, with experience in Wisconsin under NR 700 preferred. The successful candidate will be involved in all project aspects, including design/study development, construction management, project management, RFIs/Submittals reviews/responses, and client meetings. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, and public agencies is crucial. The ability to work on multiple, fast-paced projects simultaneously is essential, as is managing or assisting Project Managers with proposals, design fee estimates/budgets, schedules, and client relations, including large and complex projects/tasks. Travel regionally and state-wide on short and long-term assignments may be required, with travel expectations ranging from 0% to 25% depending on the time of year and type of project.

Responsibilities

  • Developing construction documents (drawings, specifications and cost estimates), and providing bid assistance (preparing bid sheets, and reviewing contractor bids).
  • Participate in and oversee complex environmental projects, including those still in investigation/source area identification, feasibility studies, pre-design investigations; during construction; and post-construction reporting.
  • Technical knowledge and ability to provide comprehensive project completion to start to finish with support from project staff. Experience in WI under NR 700 is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or in a project team with demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications, presentations, analytical data interpretation, professional judgement, and team building skills.
  • Ability to execute engineering best practices on a wide variety of projects for a wide variety of clients, adapting to new environments quickly.
  • Involvement in all project aspects including design/study development, construction management, project management, RFIs/Submittals reviews/responses, and client meetings.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, and public agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited university. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. License in WI is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience in environmental consulting industry working on environmental projects including construction of remedial measures, feasibility studies, construction reporting, permitting, and remedy selection. Experience with chemistry and risk assessment a plus. Project management experience a plus.
  • OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification a plus.
  • Excellent attitude and ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, etc.).
  • Must have a sense of urgency, be self-motivated, and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work efficiently under multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Valid driver-s license.
